For the first time; Spain is number one in the world in terms of wine production. In 2013 it was produced in Spain 50.5 million hectoliters of wine which was an increase of 41 percent compared with the year before, according to figures from the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Ministerio de Agricultura.

Rafael del Rey is the President of the “Observatorio Español del Mercado del Vino” and he tells ABC newspaper that “last year’s figure contradicts previous data that Spain has the world’s biggest vineyard, but we would have less output than France and Italy.”

“Last year’s figures are a result of good investments in vineyards and favorable rainfall in Spain.”

Italy produced 47.4 million hectoliters, an increase of 15 percent while France produced 42.3 million hectoliters, an increase of 2.4 percent, Marbella property.
The Spanish region where wine increases the most is the Castilla-La Mancha which increases from 19 to 31.2 million hectoliters, an increase of 64.1 percent. In Andalucia, production increased by 22.6 percent to 1.4 million hectoliters.

The Spanish wine exports to other countries increased in 2013 to 2.626 million Euros which was an increase of 7.2 percent.
